About the Study | How Does This Affect You?

Most cases of type 2 diabetes can be attributed to obesity, which has become a worldwide epidemic. Moreover, excess weight in people with type 2 diabetes increases their risk of heart disease and stroke. In theory, weight loss is simple: people who consume fewer calories than they expend will lose weight. But losing weight is a struggle for many people, so researchers are investigating new ways to help people cut calories.

A new study published in the June 25, 2007 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine tested the effects of a commercially available "diet plate" designed to help control portion sizes. They found that the use of the plate was associated with significantly more weight loss than usual care in people with type 2 diabetes.
