Patient and Visitor Info

Patients who plan to undergo Total Joint Surgery are encouraged by their Orthopedic Surgeons to attend  the Total Joint Education Program. This comprehensive Educational program is  coordinated through Social Work Services. Convenient morning and afternoon classes are offered  twice monthly on Wednesday.  This program will help you to better understand what will occur  before and after your surgery. Representatives from the following  areas will be available to offer information and answer questions specific to your individual needs:

  • Dietary
  • Discharge Planning
  • Nursing
  • Pharmacy
  • Physical Therapy

The Discharge planning process helps patients to determine the optimal course of rehabilitation post operatively, whether it be going to a Short Term Rehab Facility or returning home with Home Care Services. Surgical patents who participate in pre-operative education classes often feel better prepared for their surgery.  We will not only assist you in getting ready for surgery, but also in preparing for your recovery.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Patient Transition Coordinator at 203.694.8581.
