Laparo-Endoscopic Single-Site (LESS) surgery (also known as single-port access surgery) is among the latest techniques for procedures involving the gallbladder, colon, appendix, and adjustable gastric banding. For example, in typical gallbladder surgery, approximately four small incisions are made in the patient’s abdomen. However, with single-port access surgery, the surgeon makes only one incision above the patient’s navel. Single-port access surgery typically results in less post-operative pain, less blood loss, faster recovery time, fewer complications and reduced scarring.
