Skilled surgeons. Amazing technology. Outstanding results.
For many years, the surgeons at MidState Medical Center have led the way in introducing advanced surgical techniques to patients in Central Connecticut. Evolving from earlier laparoscopic procedures, today’s minimally invasive procedures have become the preferred approach for many patients.
In minimally invasive surgery, surgeons make fewer and smaller incisions in the body. Compared to traditional “open” surgeries, or even earlier laparoscopic procedures, minimally invasive surgeries offer significant benefits to the patient: less pain after surgery, shorter hospital stays, faster recoveries, and fewer complications.
While minimally invasive surgery is not suitable for every patient, its applications are increasing. If you need surgery, talk with your surgeon about your options. All of our surgeons are committed to offering their patients the best possible choice to return to health as quickly as possible.

GeneralSurgery
MidState Medical Center offers a full spectrum of general surgical procedures including surgery for the gallbladder, the colon, the appendix and hiatal hernias, as well as other surgeries for the digestive tract. High-definition video monitors, precise instrumentation and other advanced technologies allow our surgeons to provide optimal surgical treatment. And, continuous training helps them stay abreast of the most cutting-edge techniques, such as
Laparo-Endoscopic Single-Site (LESS) surgery – the latest method for minimally invasive “general” surgeries of the gallbladder, colon, and appendix, as well as adjustable gastric banding.
Urology
MidState offers a variety of both minimally invasive and traditional procedures to surgically treat urologic problems associated with the kidneys, the bladder, and the prostate. External Shock Treatment for kidney stones, for example, is one of the more common procedures performed. Additionally, procedures are available to treat bladder cancers, male and female incontinence, and ureteral stones, which can be removed via laser. No needle-no scalpel vasectomies are a newer, less invasive option for men considering sterilization. Minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of prostate cancer and enlarged prostate are also increasing. Men with enlarged prostate (Benign Prostate Hyperplasia or BPH) can now benefit from
GreenLightTM Laser treatment – a new, less painful procedure, which offers many advantages over the more common technique known as Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP).
Vascular
Vascular surgery involves the management of diseases that affect the arteries and veins. Throughout the years, surgLeons have perfected minimally invasive techniques for reconstruction of the vascular system. Procedures cover a breadth of areas, such as aneurysms, ischemia, and venous disease including deep vein thrombosis. Two of the most typical conditions requiring vascular surgery are Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) and Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA). We offer the latest technique for repair of aortic aneurysms, known as Endovascular Aneurysm Repair, or EVAR. This revolutionary procedure reduces pain and recovery and helps patients return to normal activity after what was traditionally one of the most complicated surgical procedures. The Diamondback 360°™ and the
SilverHawkTM Plaque Excision System – a cutting-edge technology designed for the treatment of PAD – also help patients recover faster.
Weight Loss Surgery
MidState Medical Center offers laparoscopic weight loss (bariatric) surgery including gastric bypass and adjustable gastric banding via the LAP-BAND
® system. Laparoscopy has become a preferred option for weight loss surgery. Patients recover faster, have shorter hospital stays and often experience fewer wound infections and incisional hernias following surgery. Otolaryngology
Otolaryngologists perform surgeries on the ear, nose and throat. Sinus surgery, one of the most common procedures performed in this discipline, is often needed to correct issues related to sinusitis and the removal of nasal polyps. In this type of surgery, medical instruments are inserted into the nose endoscopically, rather than by cutting external structures. Equipped with cameras, these instruments let the surgeons use real-time, 3-D images to guide them through the nasal passages, making for a safer, more precise procedure and better outcomes. This minimally
invasive technique is also much more comfortable for the patient than traditional procedures.
Gynecological
Gynecologic surgeons are the pioneers of laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery. At MidState, we offer the full range of procedures for benign and malignant female reproductive conditions. This includes hysterectomies and uro-genital procedures for incontinence and bladder problems. High-technology
robotic-assisted surgery has led to tremendous advances in minimally invasive surgery and positive outcomes for a wider range of gynecologic cases.
Ophthalmology
MidState offers the latest state-of-the-art lens implants for the treatment of cataracts.
Orthopedics
MidState’s orthopedic surgeons are experts in a variety of specialties and perform a full range of procedures including total hip and knee replacements; surgery for the ankles, feet, hands and shoulders; as well as knee reconstruction surgery. Both traditional and minimally invasive techniques are used to achieve optimal results. Sports medicine for the repair of athletic injuries is a growing field, with highly trained surgeons available at MidState.
Neurosurgery
MidState’s neurosurgeons provide surgery of the spine including traditional and minimally invasive approaches to disc removal, spinal fusions, and spinal implants.
Plastic Surgery
Both cosmetic surgery and reconstructive surgery is conducted at MidState Medical Center. Cosmetic procedures include facelifts, liposuction, and body contouring. Reconstructive surgery has several implications, but its most common application is breast reconstruction following mastectomy.
Podiatry
A variety of surgeries for the feet and ankles are performed at MidState.
