Lucille Janatka, President and Chief Executive Officer
Lucille Janatka has been President and Chief Executive Officer of MidState Medical Center since September 1999. She served as Assistant Director of Nursing at Roger Williams Hospital, Rhode Island from 1978 to 1981 and at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury from 1981-1982. In 1982, she accepted a position as Vice President for Patient Care Services at Meriden-Wallingford Hospital (now MidState Medical Center) where she subsequently served as Senior Vice President from 1986 to 1990. She became Vice President of Greenwich Hospital between 1990 and 1992, Vice President of Operations at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven from 1992 to 1995, and Vice President/Chief Operating Officer at Waterbury Hospital from 1995 to 1999. She received her BSN degree from St. Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, and her MSN Degree from Boston College in Boston, Massachusetts. Janatka has also achieved Fellow status with the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).
George Kyriacou, Interim Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
George Kyriacou joined MidState Medical Center in July 2007. He is responsible for strategic development and planning, system growth and a variety of other functions related to the successful operation of the hospital. He has over 10 years of healthcare management experience with our affiliate, Hartford Hospital, where he directed physician integration, mergers/acquisitions, and marketing and operations for a regional system of acute care hospitals and ambulatory organizations. He received his B.S. in Urban Studies and M.S. in Public Health from the University of Massachusetts. Active in the community, Kyriacou sits as Chairman of the West Hartford Surgery Center and Chairman of the Board for Aetna Ambulance and is affiliated with the American College of Healthcare Executives, Connecticut Hospital Association, and American Hospital Association.
Cindy Russo, Vice President, Patient Care Services
Cindy Russo joined MidState Medical Center in 2001 as Director of Clinical Services. She served in that capacity for five years before assuming the role of President, MidState VNA and Hospice. In June 2007 she was appointed to her present position. Prior to coming to MidState, Russo served in a variety of clinical management roles including Manager of Internal Medicine and Urgent Care at Yale University Health Services, Care Center Director for Ambulatory Care Services and the Acute Medical Hospital Unit for the Masonic Geriatric HealthCare Center and Patient Care Manager at Waterbury Hospital Healthcare Center. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Connecticut State University and a Masters of Science in Management with a concentration in Health Care Administration from the Hartford Graduate Center.
Kenneth Cesca, Vice President, Human Resources
Ken has over 18 years experience in Human Resources. He joined MidState Medical Center in 2003 as Director of Human Resources and became Vice President in 2006. He began his career at Ethan Allen, Inc. as Operations Manager from 1974 to 1979 and held various managerial positions with increasing responsibility between 1979 and 1983 at Fotomat Corporation in Wilton, CT. In 1984 he became a Regional Manager with Taylor Rental, a division of the Stanley Works in New Britain, CT. He went on to serve as Vice President of Quality and Administration and Vice President of Operations (Human Resources). In 1996, he accepted a position as Director and subsequently Vice President of Human Resources at Enthone (subsidiary of Cookson Electronics) in West Haven, CT, until 2003. Cesca received both his Bachelor of Arts degree (history and education) and his MBA in Management and Administrative Sciences from the University of Connecticut.
Ralph Becker, Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer
Ralph Becker has been the Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer at MidState Medical Center since 1985. Prior to that, he was a Senior Consultant with the health care practice of Ernst & Young in Hartford from 1981 until 1985. He held various positions in Medicare Reimbursement at Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Connecticut between 1974 and 1981. Becker received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont, and his Masters of Business Administration (Finance) degree from the University of New Haven.
Harold Kaplan, MD, Director of Medical Affairs
Harold Kaplan, MD, retired from active practice as a gastroenterologist at MidState Medical Center in July 2007, but currently serves as Director of Medical Affairs. He is responsible for the design and implementation of clinical quality and practitioner performance standards, mentoring medical staff, and overseeing structure among medical committees. Prior to his retirement, Dr. Kaplan practiced at Internal Medicine Associates, P.C. in Wallingford, and Digestive Health Specialists of Internal Medicine Associates, P.C., in Meriden. He earned his BS from Tufts University and MD from Yale University School of Medicine and completed training at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Dr. Kaplan also served as Captain of the United States Air Force (USAF), Toxic Hazards Division, 6570th Aerospace Medical Research Lab from 1965-67 and in the USAF Reserve from 1967-71. He is affiliated with the American College of Physicians, American Gastroenterological Association, and at MidState, sits on the Risk Management, Corporate Compliance and Medical Quality Management committees.
