Suffering Knee or Hip Pain? MidState Medical Center Hosts a Free Educational Seminar

Suffer from knee or hip pain? Join us for a free educational seminar to learn more about what you can do to find relief from your pain. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Obi Osuji will present a lecture on Monday, Nov. 9, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the MidState Family Health Center, 61 Pomeroy Avenue, Meriden.

MidState is one of two hospitals in Central Connecticut offering MAKOplasty®, a robotic assisted surgery for partial knee and total hip replacement. Suffer From Back Pain? Free Educational Sessions Hosted by MidState Medical Center

If you suffer from back pain you’re not alone. Join us to learn more about common back conditions and the treatment options available to help you find relief. Doctors from MidState Medical Center are hosting a free two-part educational series open to the community. On October 8, Dr. Dean Mariano will cover the topics of low back pain, sciatica, disc disease, SI Joints and non-surgical treatment options. On October 15, Dr. Jeffrey Pravda and Dr. Joel Bauman will discuss osteoporosis, compression fractures, spinal stenosis and spinal deformities. Both sessions are scheduled from 6 to 7:45 p.m. at the MidState Family Health Center, 61 Pomeroy Avenue, Meriden. At each session, physical therapist Renee Bouchard will give an overview of physical therapy techniques to improve back pain. Registration is required. Light refreshments will be served. Sept. 16, 17

The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute (HHCCI) is sponsoring a Sept. 16 and 17 bone marrow registry drive in New Britain and Meriden with Be The Match Registry and the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, Connecticut Chapter.

On Wednesday, Sept. 16 the drive will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at HHCCI at The Hospital of Central Connecticut, 183 North Mountain Road, New Britain; and from noon to 3 p.m. in Lecture Room 2 at The Hospital of Central Connecticut New Britain General campus, 100 Grand St., New Britain.

On Thursday, Sept. 17 the drive will be held 2 to 4:30 p.m. at HHCCI at MidState Medical Center, 435 Lewis Ave., Meriden at the Horwitz Conference Center, Rooms II and III.

Every year more than 14,000 patients suffer from a variety of bone marrow functioning diseases including leukemia and lymphoma and need a bone marrow transplant for survival.

At the drive, a painless and quick swab of your cheek is taken and completion of the paperwork will put you on the national registry. You are contacted only if you are found to be a match for a patient. To register you must be between the ages of 18-44, in generally good health and willing to donate to any patient in need. Fourth Annual Par-Tea Ladies Nine Hole Golf Tournament Set for Sept. 16

The MidState Medical Center Auxiliary is pleased to host its fourth annual Par-Tea Ladies Nine Hole Golf Tournament on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the Southington Country Club. This year's honorary chair is Michelle Taylor, MD, FACOG. Dr. Taylor, an obstetrical-gynecologist, practices with Women's Center of Southern New England.

Registration for the event begins at 11:30 a.m. with a shot gun start at 12:30 p.m. A high tea will be served following play at 3:30 p.m. Tournament is scramble format. Nine holes of golf and high tea are $75/person; "after par-tea" only $45/person. This year's "after par-tea" will be held at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville. Play is limited.
